Saint Margaret of the Park

from TELEFUNKIN by Mark Alan Dooley

about

When I was in New York one day .. we took some time and went to a local New York inner city park, which is nothing but a large concrete pad surrounded by chain link fence. There was one building for rest rooms, and a metal see saw, and swings with chain holding the seats. Trash littered the area. Several mothers sat on benches and yakked their time away with each other ignoring their children. But one young woman (no more than a teen) spent her time going from child to child making sure each child was enjoying the park as best that it could. She seemed like a saint ... I don't know her name but in my mind I called her 'Saint Margaret of the Park' and this tune is dedicated to my memory of her. ~Ray DeMeridian

lyrics

Walking barefoot in the grass
tickling babies as she pass
mothers worry not at what she does
she is radiating love

She is what she is
nothing about her dark
she is everything
she is a soul apart
so very like an angel
like a work of art
Saint Margaret of the park

Laughing dancing in the sun
she brings joy to everyone
in the air the perfume of her
like a flower blooms
and fills the afternoon
then she is gone too soon

She is what she is
nothing about her dark
she is everything
she is a soul apart
so very like an angel
like a work of art
Saint Margaret of the park
