My People

from Under Heaven by Mark Alan Dooley

/

about

A tribute to the people of New Orleans who experienced hurricane Katrina. The song "My People" came to me in 5 minutes. 30 minutes later I completed this master recording on my laptop in the bedroom.

lyrics

In that place down New Orleans
All the faces
We watch them with you
We watch them together
We weep

Come on down and sit with me
All my people
We are one people
This goes out to my people
Share the days and the ways
That are down home Louisianna
Where the Storm and that old river
Winding downtown
That old river all around
See the faces down

All the peoples I see
And the faces I see
The fear of it flees, the spirit it flees
Oh my people how I love you
Down Louisianna
That ol river seen better days
My people seen better days
I tell you we gotta say
We gotta break out of this haze
To hold on through the night
In New Orleans

The spirit flees
It's gone unite!
New Orleans
Hurricane New Orleans

I watched that thing
Down New Orleans
Kill my people, hurt my people
Oh my people
